Archiving the Present, as part of Arts Gen’s SHELF program, bring you Náhuat Saturday School.

Join us for a family friendly introduction workshop to the Náhuat of El Salvador and Central America from a cosmovision and Indigenous spirituality perspective, as lead by knowledge holder Franco Huixtemi. You will be provided with an e-resource for the workshop and for continued learning.

Franco Huixtemi, originally from Teotepeque, La Libertad El Salvador, studied anthropology at the University of El Salvador (UES) Disseminator of the Náhua culture of El Salvador Tamachtiani [teacher] of the language of his ancestors, Náhuat, the last living language Indigenous people of El Salvador with less than 200 native grandparents of the language. Since 2010 he has been dedicated to teaching the Indigenous language and participated in the project to revitalise the Náhuat language and culture for the Ministry of Education in 2017 as the author of three of the six books that are in different downtown schools and in western El Salvador. Franco is an active participant in the indigenous communities of the department of Sonsonate.

Please note the workshop is in person with the instructor zooming in from El Salvador. The zoom will NOT be recorded. Please confirm your attendance as numbers are limited.

The workshop is delivered in Spanish, but designed for different levels, with the group supporting each other.

**The class runs from 2-4pm but arrive from 1.15pm onwards for snacks and introductions

Archiving the Present is a multi-site digital community archive project of memory as creative practice, from a distinctly Central Americanista y localistisa perspective.

Se les hace una cordial invitacion a un taller familar de introducción al náhuat de El Salvador y América Central desde una perspectiva de cosmovisión y espiritualidad indígena. El taller sera dirigido por el profesor Franco Huixtemi. En este taller se proporcionará un recurso electrónico que ayude al aprendizaje continuo.

Franco Huixtemi, originario de Teotepeque, La Libertad El Salvador estudio la carrera de antropología en la Universidad de El Salvador (UES) Divulgador de la cultura Nahua de El Salvador Tamachtiani [maestro] de la lengua de sus ancestros, el náhuat, última lengua viva indígena de el salvador o menos de 200 abuelos nativos de la lengua. Desde el año 2010 se dedica a dar clases de la lengua indígena y participó en el proyecto de la revitalización del idioma náhuat y la cultura para el Ministerio Educación en el año 2017 cómo autor de tres de los seis libros que están en diferentes escuelas de centro y occidente de El Salvador. Participante activo en las comunidades indígenas de el departamento de sonsonate.

Se les informa que el taller sera virtual y los participantes tendran que atender en person al lugar establicido y no sera grabado. Por favor confirme su participacion ya que los numeros de participantes son limitados.

El taller sera impartido en español, pero está diseñado para diferentes niveles y con una dinamica de ayoyda grupal.

**La clase es de las 14:00 a 16:00, pero llega desde las 13:15 adelante para compartir café, platanos y introducer al grupo

Archivar el Presente es un proyecto de archivar comunitario digital multisitio de la memoria como práctica creativa, desde una perspectiva distintivamente centroamericanista y localista.
